Necronomitonic Scroll by TormentedArtifacts Necronomitonic Scroll by TormentedArtifacts
(Ok, this is the last of the old photos I have sitting around on my hard drive of stock pieces. So, if nothing else, that means that this is the last you'll see of my crummy photography. Everything after this will be shot by real photographers, and thusly will look a hell of a lot better.)

So, here we have the infamous Necronomitonic scroll, said by historians to have been fond bound around the crumbling remains of the notes of Abdul Alhazred- notes which some say predate his far more famous manuscript, and which may have been the precursor to such.

In the center, we can of course see the primary feature of this piece, the Seal of the Gate. Surrounding it in gold leaf are the names which empower the seal, inscribed in Hebrew. In a ring around that are the silver-etched angelic sigils, which act as a guarding influence upon the Seal, lest it activitaed by one of the uninitiated. Below all of this are row after row of demonic sigils, possibly the names of those creatures that may be called forth or controlled by the Seal. As to what use the Mad Arab may have put this scroll, the less said, the better.

This piece reminds of a certain quest in the computer game 'The Elder Scrolls of Oblivion', don't know if you heard of it, but it really does. This has a very nice mystical look over it, very well done (is it hard to paint the gold on leather by the way? Just curious.)

It's a bit of a challenge- it mostly depends on just how fuzzy the leather is, since I'm typically using the reverse side of the hide when doing scrolls.

Gold leaf or gold ink? What is the paper?

gold liquid leaf- and not paper- leather.

I was under the impression that all gold leaf was liquid until it dried. Am I wrong? Or have I been using a strange yet fluid version of it's dry counterpart?
Also, is the dditional text ink?

How did you get the leather to get to that texture? Is it really thin?

Nope- traditional gold leaf is a solid foil: [link]

The additional text is handpainted. I don't typically use inks.

It's just the revers side of one of my standard hides- between 1/8th and 1/16th of an inch thick.

Oh,oh! I forgot comment on this one but added it so long time ago ;-)
So nice mystic look on this also the black background and the metallic glyphs look great together.
All together it has really a very strong mystical look that would be nice on the wall of every Cthulhu lover or Necronomicon reader;-)
