Arcanepunk: Invocator's Knife by TormentedArtifacts Arcanepunk: Invocator's Knife by TormentedArtifacts
"Many of you novices may be wondering why we issue the knife to all trainees. Your knife is a tool as much as it is a weapon- whit it, you will draw forth what is needed to perform the basic duties of an Invocator. Summoning, Binding, Banishing, the use of a tool such as this is integral to all of them. The bone and brass blade can be used to channel energy just as easily as it can be used to draw your own blood to create a summoning. The synchronizer on the pommel has been adapted to work with any number of devices, including the interfaces of the airships you will one day help to pilot. And the edge?

"The edge will cut. And you'll be using it on yourselves. As Invocators, you already know this- no power comes without a price. And the price, will always be paid out in one currency- your life. Drop by precious drop. That's what we sell in return for our power."

-Excerpt from a Royal Academy training speech.

Hm. Well, I believe all three of those originals sold ages ago, unfortunately. I've got a variant of the Mad Scientst still available, which is this piece right here: [link]

It's actually only 35, since I'm trying to lighten up on stock at this point, and I'm not going to be doing plasterworks any longer. PLus an extra 5 to cover shipping, so only forty in total.

I think we've thoroughly established that I love this piece, but the little speech bubble coming from your icon is insisting I leave a comment.

What type of bone did you use for the blade?

Femur.

Sorry, I know- not what you meant. To be honest, the femur came from a pretty generic selection of bones- I know it wasn't cow from the shape, but it looked like it could have been deer, elk, or possibly moose (if moose, definitely a short moose.)

How did you get the curve out of the bone? I tried making a blade from a horse femur, but when I was done it looked like the tip of a bamboo spear.

Unfortunately, I wish I knew- the blade itself was a purchased piece- already shaped as such.

S'alright =) It answered my question.

Another question; where did you find the 'selection of bones'? I'm trying to find a place that will sell a femur to make into an archer's ring, or two.

Craigslist. Ebay. Pretty much just by random luck. If you want to skip the searching and buy direct from a tannery or somesuch, I recommend: [link] but you usually end up paying a lot more that way.

That looks awesome! Great workmanship.
What kind of paint did you use on the blade??

Thanks! Glad you like it.

The paint's Jacquard Lumiere- a mix of their "antiqued brass" and "bronze." Sorry, but I didn't track the exact ratio when I was mixing. It's bonded down with the same protectant I use on a lot of the masks I make, so it's also made to take a beating.
